Healthy and Delicious Homemade Popsicles

If you know me, then you know I’m a little obsessed with popsicles. We eat them year-round at my house! I like to pop them in the microwave for a few seconds to get them nice and soft. It’s my all-time favorite treat. The only problem is, most popsicles are filled with so many additives and artificial sweeteners that I don’t feel great about eating them! If you make them at home, you know exactly what’s going into them. No high fructose corn syrup here! Plus, I think they taste much better! The great thing about making homemade popsicles is that you can mix and match whatever flavors you want! Today I’m using strawberry, mango, and pineapple, but you can switch these out for all of your favorite fruits! I add a little coconut milk and honey to the fruit puree to make it creamy and sweet, then from there, it’s off to the freezer until they’re ready to be enjoyed! These healthy homemade popsicles are bursting with flavor and the perfect, easy snack for the kids. Your family is going to love them!

Homemade Fruit Popsicle Ingredients

Simple ingredients are what make a good popsicle! This is what I used to make mine. I’ve added a few substitutions, and you can find more ideas and ways to customize them below! If you’re looking for measurements, they can all be found in the recipe card at the end of the post.

Coconut Milk: You can omit this if you want your popsicles to be more tart and fruity, but I love the creaminess that coconut milk adds! The healthy fats in coconut milk also help to keep your popsicles soft rather than icy. You can also use plain yogurt to achieve a similar effect.Frozen Fruit: I used frozen strawberries, mangos, and pineapple. Any frozen fruit will work here! Raspberries, peaches, watermelon, and blueberries are other delicious options. Just make sure any fruit you use is slightly thawed so it blends easily.Sweetener: I like to use natural sweeteners for my popsicles! Honey, maple syrup, agave, and blended banana are all tasty options for making your popsicles sweeter.

How to Make Popsicles at Home

Making homemade popsicles is so easy! They only take a few minutes to prepare. Really, the hardest part is waiting for them to freeze. I love remembering that I have some ready to eat in the freezer on hot summer days. They’re so refreshing, nothing compares! (Well, maybe this watermelon agua fresca.)

Add Herbs: One simple way to add a boost of flavor to your popsicles is to blend fresh herbs into your fruit puree! Basil and mint are my go-tos! Edible flowers like lavender, hibiscus, and rose add nice flavor as well. Just be sure to add a little as you go, the flavor can easily become overpowering.Add Vegetables: If your kids are anything like mine, it’s hard to get them to eat vegetables. Good news – you can sneak veggies into your popsicles and they’ll never know! Spinach and carrots are some of my favorites to add in.Lemonade Popsicles: For popsicles that are a little more bright and tart, try blending your fruit purees with lemonade!Use Wooden Popsicle Sticks: I like using wooden popsicle sticks instead of the plastic sticks that come with the molds for easy cleanup. This is also great for taking your popsicles on the go.
